Syrian Parliament commemorates the Armenian Genocide –

The People’s Council of Syria on Tuesday conducted a special session dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, calling for international efforts to condemn the big tragedy.
Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham delivered an opening address, extending his word of solidarity to the Armenians. “The coming days coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman [authorities] against the Armenians, our friends. In this connection, we offer our absolute solidarity to the Armenian people, as well as our Syrian-Armenian compatriots, for the horrific genocide. We call upon the world community and all the nations around the globe to stand side by side to confront slaughterers, headsmen and terrorists, which threaten the Middle East, in order to avert other atrocities against humanity, civilization and history,” he said.
The speaker further asked the parliament to observe a minute of silence in remembrance of the 1.5 million victims.
Members from different parliamentary factions later delivered speeches, strongly condemning the crime committed against the Armenian in the Ottoman Empire and calling upon the world countries to join their efforts.
