(Horizon Media / YEREVAN) – Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, will travel to Armenia next week to participate in the European Political Community summit, according to the European Council. He will be the first non-European leader invited to attend the gathering since the format was established.
The summit will be held under the theme “Building the Future: Unity and Resilience in Europe.” Discussions in Yerevan are set to focus on strengthening democratic resilience, improving connectivity, and enhancing economic and energy security, with an emphasis on coordinated regional cooperation.
Leaders from the EU’s 27 member states, along with partner countries such as Azerbaijan and Turkey, have been invited. Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Vahan Kostanyan, recently stated that neither Baku nor Ankara has yet responded to the invitation.
Launched in 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Political Community meets twice a year to address security, stability, and cooperation across Europe. Previous summits have been hosted by the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Albania, with the next meeting after Yerevan scheduled for November in Ireland.
