Armenian parliament majority rejects opposition resolution on border delimitation

The pro-government majority in the Armenian National Assembly on Tuesday voted down an opposition-drafted resolution on the delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The draft resolution tabled by the opposition Hayastan faction was rejected by a vote of 51 against and 27 in favor.

“Civil Contract once again rejected a pro-Armenian resolution in yet another failure to deliver on its election promises,” Hayastan MP Artsvik Minasyan announced.

“Whereas, the document was aimed at ensuring a higher level of security for Armenia in accordance with international law,” he stated, accusing the ruling party of making unilateral concessions to Azerbaijan.

The opposition resolution stipulated that the delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan should in no way restrict the right of the Nagorno-Karabakh people to return to their homes and determine Artsakh’s status.

“By voting against, the parliament majority has once again confirmed that they have renounced Artsakh,” Minasyan underscored.
