Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem condemns attack on Armenian Quarter

(Horizon Media / JERUSALEM) – The Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem has strongly condemned a recent attack in the Armenian Quarter, during which six religious Jewish Israelis allegedly spat on the entrance of Sts. James Cathedral and threw stones toward the homes of Armenian residents.

The committee said the incident forms part of a continuing pattern of harassment, intimidation and violence targeting Jerusalem’s Armenian community. It warned that the repeated attacks have created a climate of impunity, fuelled by the lack of consistent law enforcement and prosecution.

The committee called on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to publicly condemn the attack and reaffirm Israel’s commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and fundamental rights of all religious and national communities. It also urged Israeli authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

International human rights organizations, diplomatic missions and the broader international community were also urged to closely follow the situation and take meaningful steps to safeguard the rights, security and historic presence of Jerusalem’s Armenian community.
