Armenia to set birth grant at 500,000 drams for all children born from September

(Horizon Media / YEREVAN) — Beginning September 1, 2026, Armenia’s one-time childbirth grant will be set at 500,000 drams for every newborn, regardless of whether the child is the first, second or a subsequent birth in the family, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has announced.

Applications for the grant may be submitted through the E-Social platform or at territorial offices of the Unified Social Service.

The ministry also outlined other forms of state assistance available to families following childbirth, including maternity payments, monthly childcare benefits until age two, additional support for families with three or more children, and assistance for families repaying mortgages.

Both employed and unemployed citizens are eligible for maternity benefits. Unemployed recipients receive a fixed payment of 172,698 drams, while payments for employed individuals are calculated based on their average monthly salary. The benefit is processed through the medical certificate issued after the 210th day of pregnancy and does not require a separate application.

Monthly childcare support until the age of two ranges from 31,600 to 69,100 drams, depending on whether the parent is on childcare leave and whether the family resides in a rural community. Applications can be submitted once the child reaches 70 days of age.

Families welcoming a third or subsequent child also receive 50,000 drams per month until the child turns six.

Additional assistance is available to families with mortgages. Under the government’s housing support program, families may receive up to 500,000 drams toward the mortgage principal following the birth of a first or second child, and up to 2 million drams following the birth of a third or subsequent child. Applications must be filed with the lending bank or credit organization before the child turns one.
