Grandmaster Levon Aronian wins Sinquefield Cup chess tournament –

Top Armenian chess grandmaster Levon Aronian has won a prestigious 10-man tournament in St. Louis, USA, that has brought together leading chess players of the world.

With six points out of possible nine Aronian placed ahead of reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and FIDE’s current number four Hikaru Nakamura (USA) at the Sinquefield Cup.

The latest victory comes after an unsuccessful spell for Aronian who recently dropped from his long-held second position in the FIDE rankings to just 11th.

The success is all the more so remarkable considering a number of Aronian’s crushing victories over strong competitors
