ARF, Sarkisian Discuss Constitutional Reforms

“There are still certain issues and approaches that require further discussion,” says ARF leader. 

YEREVAN—Representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation met Wednesday with President Serzh Sarkisian to discuss the constitutional reforms package presented last week to parliament. Sarkisian also met with Prosperous Armenia Party and Country of Law party representatives.

Representing the ARF at the meeting were ARF Bureau member and parliamentary bloc president Armen Rustamian, as well as ARF Supreme Council of Armenia members Aghvan Vartanian and Arsen Hambartsumyan. Vartanian is also the Secretary of the party’s bloc in parliament.

The parties discussed the overall process of constitutional reforms. They touched upon approaches included in the Draft Constitutional Reforms as elaborated by the Presidential Commission on Constitutional Reforms, as well as certain provisions of the draft.

The ARF representatives expressed readiness to continue active and comprehensive discussions on the Draft Constitutional Reforms. The party leaders also reiterated that issues of importance to the ARF have been included in the draft package.

“There are still certain issues and approaches that require further discussion,” said Hambartsumyan following the meeting in an interview with Armlur.am.

“I am certain that during debates in parliament, we will have the opportunity to present those provisions important to us [the ARF] that have not been included in the draft constitution, and present specific approaches through which those provision can be included in the final draft,” added Hambartsumyan.
