(Horizon Media) – Belgium’s first TUMO centre has officially opened in the city of Liège, marking a new milestone for the internationally recognized Armenian educational model and its growing presence in Europe.
Located at La Grand Poste, Liège, the new centre will offer free training for young people aged 12 to 18 in fields such as programming, artificial intelligence, robotics, video game development and graphic design.
Wallonia’s Vice-President and Minister of Economy, Industry, Employment and Digital Economy, Pierre-Yves Jeholet described the initiative as an important investment in the region’s future competitiveness and technological development. He stressed that Wallonia faces major challenges related to industrial recovery, strategic autonomy, and the need for highly qualified talent in key sectors, including healthcare, energy, and defence.
According to local officials and project partners, TUMO Liège is expected to play an important role in encouraging young people to pursue careers in STEAM fields, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, while strengthening the digital ecosystem of Liège and the wider Walloon region.
Thomas Lenoir, director of TUMO Liège, said the centre’s first days of operation had already demonstrated the success and adaptability of the Armenian-developed model in Belgium. He noted that TUMO’s universal approach allows students of different backgrounds and skill levels to progress and develop future-oriented digital skills.
The centre can host up to 129 students per session, with two sessions planned daily and capacity for around 600 students per week. Organizers aim to train between 1,000 and 1,500 young people annually from Liège and the surrounding areas.
The project is supported by local partners, including those that view the initiative as a way to help prepare young people for ongoing digital transformations while contributing to the development of Wallonia’s technology sector.
Participants at the opening ceremony described TUMO Liège as an important example of international educational cooperation and a demonstration of how an innovative model created in Armenia can successfully inspire and educate young people across different countries and regions.
