Armenia secures first medal at European Weightlifting Championships

(Horizon Media) – Armenia has claimed its first podium finish at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, following a strong showing in the men’s 60 kg category.
Garnik Cholakyan secured the silver medal in the overall standings, lifting a combined total of 274 kg to earn the title of European runner-up.
He also reached the podium in both individual lifts. Cholakyan recorded successful snatch attempts of 120 kg and 124 kg to take silver, while his 145 kg and 150 kg lifts in the clean and jerk brought him a bronze medal.
In the same division, Bulgaria’s Angel Rusev narrowly took gold with a total of 275 kg.
The result marks Armenia’s first medal of the competition.
