(Horizon Weekly / YEREVAN) — Anna Hakobyan, the spouse of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has announced that her civil marriage to the prime minister has ended and that she will be leaving the government residence to move into a rented apartment.
In a Facebook video, Hakobyan stated that she had previously indicated her civil marriage was ending, noting that the couple had no other form of marriage. She attached a written statement to the video and declared that the matter is not open for discussion.
“I inform all my friends, acquaintances—known and unknown—relatives near and far, and even my closest people, that this topic is not subject to discussion with me. I am placing a ban on it,” she wrote. “We heard, we recorded, we move on.”
Hakobyan said she owns neither a car nor a house. She explained that a home purchased with a loan remains under construction, prompting her to move into a rental apartment. Addressing longstanding public allegations about her finances, she denied claims that she possesses significant offshore assets or wealth.
Hakobyan further stated that she will continue serving as executive director of the “My Step” foundation, describing it as paid employment that she “very much needs.” She did not rule out the possibility of a criminal case being initiated against her in connection with her role at the foundation.
Prime Minister Pashinyan responded on his own Facebook page, saying he respects Hakobyan’s decision. He reflected on their decades together, writing that she had been by his side throughout difficult periods over the past 30 years.
“I treat Anna’s decision with respect. Over the past 30 years, during all my difficult days, she has been by my side, my support and pillar. I am not sure whether I have been that for her. Perhaps I have caused more bitterness, for which I apologize,” he wrote.
