Lawmakers from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party voted against a draft resolution demanding that Azerbaijan ensure the safe return of displaced Artsakh Armenians to their homes under international guarantees, opposition MP Artur Khachatryan said on Thursday.
Khachatryan, who represents the Hayastan faction, said the proposal co-authored with MPs Anna Grigoryan, Elinar Vardanyan, Hayk Mamijanyan and two European socialist members, was introduced during the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly session in Yerevan.
He claimed that Civil Contract deputies urged European counterparts not to back the amendment.
Civil Contract MP Arman Yeghoyan said while the ruling party supports the call for the release of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, it cannot endorse language obligating Baku to ensure the repatriation of displaced Karabakh Armenians.
