Ruben Vardanyan held in ‘complete isolation’ in Baku prison, his son says

David Vardanyan, the son of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, has revealed that his father is being held in “complete isolation” in an Azerbaijani prison.

“The key issue and absurdity of the situation is that the only legal representatives who have access to him are Azerbaijani lawyers. Our international lawyers have never been able to see or even contact him. This creates a complete information vacuum and total isolation,” he told the RTVI TV channel in an interview on Thursday.

He also stated that all requests from lawyers to visit his father have either been ignored or rejected. Independent physicians are similarly barred from seeing Vardanyan.

According to David, Ruben Vardanyan faces 45 charges under 20 articles. The case file contains 25,000 pages in Azerbaijani, which are being interpreted to him by a translator appointed by Azerbaijani investigators and prosecutors.
