German Bundestag Committee to discuss Armenian Genocide resolutions on May 6

German Bundestag Committee to discuss Armenian Genocide resolutions on May 6 –

On May 6, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag will discuss the Armenian Genocide resolutions submitted by three factions. In an interview with “Armenpress”, German genocide expert Tessa Hoffman informed that it was still unclear as to whether the Foreign Affairs Committee would decide to create one resolution or not after discussions on the three resolutions submitted by the two ruling parties and the members of the opposition. “Of course, we heard influential and encouraging statements by the representatives of the parliamentary factions.

However, they will remain personal opinions until German lawmakers vote in favor of the resolution, which will be either non-legislative or nonmandatory. However, we urgently need such a resolution, and that’s not only to meet the expectations of the Armenian community of Germany. We need to raise awareness about the Armenian Genocide in German schools since the main focus in schools is currently on the Holocaust. German society is gradually becoming multi-ethnic due to the large groups of immigrants from the Near East (Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, etc.) where there are wide masses of Armenians and Christians,” Hoffman told “Armenpress”, mentioning that this is the reason why they’re trying to keep the people aware.
