Uruguay MPs reflect on 110th anniversary of Armenian Genocide

At the initiative of Armenian MP José Luis Satdjian, during the session of the Uruguayan Chamber of Representatives, the deputies reflected on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Embassy in Uruguay informs.

Representatives of all political forces represented in the parliament supported MP Satdjian’s initiative, proudly noting that Uruguay was the first country to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.

MPs José Luis Satdjian, Ana Olivera and Pedro Jisdonian also touched upon the ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, the issue of Armenian prisoners illegally held in Azerbaijan, recalling that the Uruguayan Parliament unanimously adopted a statement calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release all Armenian prisoners.

The Uruguayan parliamentarians expressed their special respect and solidarity with the Armenian people and the Uruguayan Armenian community, welcomed Armenian Ambassador Mariam Gevorgyan, who was present at the session, and highly appreciated the activities of the embassy.
