Siroun Melkonian, President of immigration organization, recognized for volunteer work
On Monday, June 17, Siroun Melkonian won a prestigious award from Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency for her 29-year-long volunteer work for the volunteers’ program of the Tax Assistance Service (Service d’aide en impôt). This program, administered by both revenue agencies, is designed to provide free assistance to people who are unable to complete their tax returns and who cannot afford to entrust such a task to professionals.
Siroun Melkonian is the President of the Carrefour d’Intercultures de Laval, a non-profit organization founded in 1990 which welcomes, assists and mentors newcomers, including government-sponsored refugees, as well as visible minorities and members of various cultural communities in their integration into Quebec society. Alongside tax assistance, its services include French/English language programs, information sessions about finding housing, courses about finding work, as well as academic support programs for students.
