MP Lilit Galstyan condemns political trials of Armenian captives in Baku

During a parliamentary briefing, MP Lilit Galstyan addressed the ongoing politically motivated trials in Baku against Armenian captives, including former political and military leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, calling for urgent and elevated attention to the issue.

“The matter of prisoners of war must be one of the highest priorities on Armenia’s political agenda,” Galstyan stated, as reported by Armenpress.

She noted that Azerbaijani prosecutors have demanded severe sentences against several former officials.

According to Azerbaijani media, life imprisonment has been requested for former President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan, ex-Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, former Defense Army Commander Levon Mnatsakanyan, his former deputy Davit Manukyan, and former parliament speaker Davit Ishkhanyan.

Additionally, prosecutors have requested 20-year sentences for former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan, as well as Madat Babayan and Pashayan Melikset.

Other requested sentences include: Garik Martirosyan – 19 years, Davit Alaverdyan – 18 years, Levon Babayan – 17 years, Vasil Beglaryan, Gurgen Stepanyan, and Edik Ghazaryan – 16 years each.
