MP accuses Armenian authorities of orchestrating chaos to silence opposition

Opposition leader Seyran Ohanyan has accused Armenia’s current leadership of using state-controlled media and institutions to discredit the country’s past achievements and those who contributed to its statehood.
At a parliament briefing on Friday, Ohanyan, who heads the opposition Hayastan faction, claimed the authorities are targeting former President Robert Kocharyan and his family in an attempt to erase the legacy of the post-war state system built under his leadership. He criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for his lack of strategic vision and poor governance, citing failures in foreign policy, security, economy and justice.
Ohanyan stressed that when the opposition raises critical questions, the ruling Civil Contract faction resorts to provocations instead of offering proper responses to them.
“Instead of addressing the concerns, they stage clashes, noise and low-grade political theatrics,” the MP said. “They start shouting, insulting and instigating mob-style provocations reminiscent of nomadic behavior all to drown out the issues raised.”
The opposition leader argued that this strategy aims to mislead the public and discredit the political processes.
“The ruling regime’s real fear lies in the legal and moral accountability it cannot escape,” he warned.
