Ex-envoy claims Armenian leadership has no chance of re-election in 2026

Former MP and Ambassador-At-Large Edmon Marukyan has accused the Armenian leadership of bowing to all of Azerbaijan’s demands in the U.S.-brokered Washington declaration.
In a social media post on Monday, he recalled Deputy Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan’s earlier assurances that there would be no “extraterritorial corridor”, emphasizing that the signed document rules out such an arrangement.
However, Marukyan argued that by accepting the wording, Yerevan effectively agreed to Baku’s version of a route within Armenia’s territory stripped of Armenian control or border oversight.
“This is another deception imposed on the people,” Marukyan wrote. “In Washington, the authorities gave Aliyev everything he wanted in exchange for nothing, simply to try to secure re-election in 2026.”
“There will be no corridor and you will not be re-elected,” he added.
