Charity concert held in Canada to help orphaned children in Armenia
On July 5, the Armenian Evangelical Church of Montreal hosted a classical music concert organized by the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR), with the aim of helping Armenian orphans living in the homeland. The honorary presidents of the concert were Habib and Fulda Maloyan.
In his opening remarks, chairman of the association’s Montreal Chapter, Dr. Sargis Yeretsian, highlighted the donations they organized for Armenian orphans in Javakhk, in Georgia, in Lebanon and Syria. He also added that the main goal of the association is to help the orphans along their physical, emotional and mental development so that they become educated and self-reliant in the future. The Society has provided a dental center in Gyumri with up-to-date tools, which benefits not only the orphans, but also the inhabitants of Gyumri. The association also supported the renovation of Vardashen village gym.
The concert featured Marine Krikorian (soprano) and Elie Berberian (tenor), who performed pieces by Puccini, Verdi, Komitas, Dokranian, and other classical composers. They were accompanied by pianist Gregory Shahverdian.
