Armenian National Committee of Southwestern Ontario Holds Phone Meeting With Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry

On March 30, 2020, Mr Levon Sarmazian, the Chair of the Armenian National Committee of Southwestern Ontario, had a phone meeting with Her Worship Kathryn McGarry Mayor of Cambridge. The phone meeting was a follow up to a letter sent to the Mayor regarding an update about the Armenian Community Centre of Cambridge’s actions taken since the COVID-19 outbreak.

It was a productive meeting with information shared from both parties about how to work together about providing services and important information to residents of Cambridge during this critical time. The Mayor asked for members of the Armenian community to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 by following very important guidelines enforced by the City of Cambridge, the Region of Waterloo and the Federal and Provincial governments. The best way to slow the spread of the virus is by everyone doing their part and practice proper physical/social distancing and by staying home. Also, ensuring that no members of the community are having gatherings of more than 5 people.

The City of Cambridge Council approved a COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to provide immediate relief and flexibility for residents and businesses. Some of the immediate relief actions include grace periods for penalties and interest on property taxes and water utility bills and relaxed parking enforcement.
