Armenian Government greenlights bill on launching EU membership process
The government greenlightrd the draft law on the launch of the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union at its regular sitting today. The bill will now be sent to the National Assembly for consideration.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the adoption of the law does not mean membership in the European Union. According to Pashinyan, a referendum is necessary on the issue.
“This does not mean Armenia’s membership in the European Union, since a decision on this issue can only be made through a referendum, but it should also be noted that before the referendum we must take certain actions – discuss, develop a roadmap with the European Union,” Pashinyan noted.
According to him, the Republic of Armenia has no other action to take before the start of negotiations on the creation of a roadmap.
The petition launched last year collectrd 60,000 signatures.
