(Horizon Weekly) – World-renowned Armenian-Canadian musician and children’s advocate Raffi Cavoukian has been promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his lifetime of exceptional contributions to Canadian culture, child advocacy and environmental stewardship.
Best known simply as Raffi, the Cairo-born singer-songwriter has been a beloved figure in children’s music for more than five decades, enchanting generations with iconic songs such as “Baby Beluga” and “Bananaphone.” His work in music is complemented by deep commitment to advocacy through the Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring, which promotes children’s well-being, environmental protection and ethical community building.
Originally invested into the Order of Canada as a Member in 1983, Raffi’s elevation to Companion—the highest rank in the order—acknowledges his enduring influence on Canadian arts and society and his global leadership in championing the rights and dignity of children.
