Aznavour hospitalized in Geneva, concert postponed
ARKA – Legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour, 90, has been hospitalised for an infection and has postponed the Opus One concert due to be held later on Friday in Geneva, organizers said.
“Charles Aznavour has been preventively hospitalized after contracting an infection in recent days,” the Opus One event managers said in a statement, without providing more details about his condition or which country or hospital he was being treated in, The Local’s Switzerland edition reports.
The activist-singer’s planned concert in Geneva on Friday evening has been postponed, but he and the organizers would try to reschedule the concert “as soon as possible,” the statement said.
Aznavour, who began performing at the age of nine, has written about 1,000 songs over his career, with many of them recognized all over the world. Aznavour was named Entertainer of XX century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe.
UNESCO appointed Aznavour as its permanent ambassador to Armenia in 1995.
