President Sargsyan visits House-Museum of Artsakh war hero Dushman Vardan –

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited HouseMuseum of Artsakh war hero Vardan Stepanyan (Dushman Vardan) on March 9. The House-Museum was restored and reopened today on the occasion of the 50th birth anniversary of Armenian national hero Dushman Vardan.

 Serzh Sargsyan left a note in the guestbook of the House-Museum. “Vardan Stepanyan is a true example of conscious and farsighted intellectual; example of volunteer, dedicated himself to protecting the homeland. With the discipline and courage he was already an example for his service mates when he was alive. His last glorious battle path is the path of our whole army’.

 Vardan Stepanyan (March 9, 1966 – July 3, 1992)  was an Armenian military commander during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. Stepanyan actively participated in the Liberation of Shushi. Vardan Stepanyan was killed by a mine explosion on July 3, 1992 in Myurishen village of Artsakh. He was a memeber of ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation).

 Stepanyan was buried at Yerablur military cemetery in Armenia’s capital Yerevan.  He was posthumously awarded with First Degree Order of the Combat Cross of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in 1993 and Second Degree Order of the Combat Cross of Armenia in 1996.
