EU condemns threats from Azerbaijan: EU Mission to continue to patrol Armenia’s border

(Armradio) – Threats and intimidation are unacceptable, Nabila Massrali, Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy of the EU, said in a Twitter post.

“The EU Mission in Armenia will continue to neutrally observe and report in order to contribute to stability in the border areas of Armenia and to ensure an environment conducive to the normalization efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” she said.

The comments come after an apparent threat to members of the European Parliament by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the EU, Vagif Sadigov, who tweeted on 23 June in response to a visit by a delegation of MEPs to Armenia which travelled to the entrance of the Lachin corridor.

Sadigov posted an image and description of an Azerbaijani-produced sniper rifle with the following caption:

“They know what they are doing to protect themselves. The Istiglal IST-14.5 anti-materiel sniper rifle produced in Azerbaijan has the effective firing range of about 3,000 m. Guys, keep clear of Azerbaijani state border…”
