Armenian opposition insists on Pashinyan’s resignation

Opposition Hayastan faction MP Artsvik Minasyan on Wednesday accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of failure to deliver on his election promises regarding Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and insisted on his resignation to pave the way for fresh elections in Armenia.

“In your election program, you said something else, today your speech is about other goals and results,” Minasyan told Pashinyan at the parliamentary debate on the execution in 2023 of the Armenian government’s 2021-2026 program.

The opposition MP highlighted that Pashinyan repeatedly talked about Artsakh’s self-determination and security previously.

“In the current situation, what should be the solution for a country declared as a bastion of democracy? It should be resignation, elections and formation of a new government. Because if the government program has changed, the approaches enshrined in its program no longer exist, such a government cannot be legitimate. You know it much better than I do, but your desire to hold on to power doesn’t allow you to take such a step,” Minasyan said.
