The ANCC is the largest and most influential Armenian-Canadian grassroots human rights organization. Dedicated to advancing the concerns of the Armenian-Canadian community, the ANCC actively works on a broad spectrum of issues and collaborates with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters across Canada and affiliated organizations globally. Committed to eliminating human rights abuses, the ANCC plays a pivotal role in advocating for justice and equality nationally and internationally.
Position Overview:
The ANCC is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Government Relations Director. This position will operate at the federal level, coordinating with local chapters to support the national office. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping and executing the organization’s government relations strategy, fostering key relationships, and advancing the human rights agenda for the Armenian-Canadian community. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Government Relations Strategy:
– Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy aligned with the ANCC’s mission and goals.
– Monitor legislative and policy developments at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels that impact the Armenian-Canadian community.
Advocacy and Lobbying:
– Engage with elected officials, government agencies, and relevant stakeholders to advocate for the ANCC’s positions and priorities.
– Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers to influence policy outcomes.
Coordination and Collaboration:
– Collaborate with local chapters to ensure cohesive and effective advocacy efforts on all levels of government.
– Work closely with affiliated organizations, NGOs, and human rights groups to amplify the ANCC’s impact.
Research and Analysis:
– Conduct policy research and analysis to inform the ANCC’s advocacy initiatives.
– Prepare briefing materials, policy papers, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Public Relations:
– Represent the ANCC in public forums, conferences, and media engagements to communicate key messages and promote the organization’s objectives.
– Build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets to enhance visibility.
Community Engagement:
– Engage with the Armenian-Canadian community to understand their concerns and incorporate community perspectives into advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, communications, or a related field.
– Strong knowledge of Canadian political and legislative processes.
– Proven experience in government relations, advocacy, or a related field, with a focus on human rights issues, is an asset.
– Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
– Ability to work irregular hours.
– Ability to learn on the job.
– Familiarity with the Armenian-Canadian community and its issues.
– English essential. Bilingualism is an asset.
– Knowledge of Armenian is an asset.
Compensation:
The salary for this position will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and education.
