ANCC met with Premier of British Columbia and  key political representatives at Annual SUCCESS Gala in Vancouver

On April 8th  2023 , Armenian National Committee of Canada Western Region representatives Vahe Andonian, Sevan Agopian Jack Agopian and Vannesa Bardakjian, joined colleague and event co-chair Vahe (Steve) Agopian at the 50th Golden Anniversary Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala in Vancouver.

The ANCC representatives embraced the occasion and met with the major political and philanthropic players throughout the evening.

Highlights of the evening included frank, open discussions with BC Premier David Eby, Federal Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan, MP Parm Bains, BC Ministers Bruce Ralston and Ann Kang, B.C. Legislature Official  Opposition Leader MLA Kevin Falcon, Mayor Ken Sim of Vancouver and Mayor Malcolm Brodie of Richmond.

The ANCC members expressed their deep concerns about the 100+ day blockade of Artsakh and many other destabilizing actions by Azerbaijan against the Armenians of Artsakh and Armenia. They told Minister Sajjan and MP Baines, that while they appreciate the Government of Canada speaking out to request that Azerbaijan lift the blockade and adhere to its international commitments, they want Canada to take action to preserve the fragile peace and call out the aggressor to let it know the world is watching. The Minister promised to bring up the issue in upcoming Cabinet meetings with the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Similarly, new BC Premier David Eby was briefed on the ongoing situation, how his predecessor John Horgan intervened with a letter to the Prime Minister. Premier Eby promised to work with ANCC and to follow up the efforts of former Premier John Horgan.
