Armenia’s population growth declines by 8.6 percent in six months –

 

ARKA – Armenia’s population growth in the first half of 2015 declined by 8.6 percent year-on-year to 4,091 people, according to Karine Kuyumjyan, head of Census and Demography Department at the National Statistical Service (NSS).

Speaking at a news conference today she said the number of deaths during the reporting period decreased by 1% to 14, 628. She added that the main causes of death in Armenia are circulatory, cancer, respiratory and digestive system’s diseases.

According to Ms. Kuyumjyan, in the first half of 2015 some 18,719 babies were born, down from 19,249 in the first half of 2014.

“Thus, the number of babies born in the first 6 months of 2015 decreased by 2.8% when compared with the same period in 2014 year”, she  said.

According to her, in the first five months of 2015 some 7, 270 baby girls and 8,148 baby boys were born. The most popular names among newborn girls were Nare, Marie, Maria, Anahit; the most popular boy’s names were David, Narek, Tigran and Hayk.
