Over $70mln invested in Kashen copper mine in Karabakh –

Over $70 million have been invested in Kashen copper and molybdenum mine in Karabakh so far, the premier of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Arayik Harutiunyan said at a government meeting on Friday.

The meeting considered Kashen deposit investment program proposed by Base Metals company.  The program envisages geological prospecting in the fields of Kashen and Drmpon during not more than 20 years.

The head of the government said the ore is currently sent to Drmpon processing plant, but a more powerful on-site plant will be commissioned in a year.

This will help increase both the number of jobs and budget receipts, Harutiunyan said.

Kashen mine operations are one of the major economic projects in Artsakh (Karabakh) with total investment capital of about $127 million, the premier said adding the government has contributed to the project.

In particular, the government paid for construction of Sotk-Karvachar-Aterk high-voltage power grid to ensure the company’s energy supplies and enhance the energy security level in the country, Harutiunyan said.

The head of the government also stressed the importance of monitoring of environmental impact of mining industry in the country.
