Kurds attack Turkish culture office in Rome –

A pro-Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) group attacked the Office of Culture and Information of the Turkish Embassy in Rome, Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik announced via his Twitter account on Thursday.

The group, consisting of 20 people, attacked the Turkish building while they were holding a protest in front of it in solidarity with Kobani, a Syrian Kurdish town that has been under siege by the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for more than a month.

Minister Çelik said in his tweets that the group threw smoke bombs at the building and that the ministry vehemently condemns the attack.

In a related incident, the General Staff announced on Thursday that four members of the PKK took down a Turkish flag from the Altındağ Municipality Kindergarten in Ankara province. The General Staff said four people were detained over the incident, and added that two of the detainees were released while legal proceedings have been launched against the two others.
