Chess: Armenian national team heading to World Championships in Turkey –
Within just days after the end of the European Chess Team Championship in Warsaw, Poland, Armenian men’s national team is heading for an even higher-ranking event – the World Team Championship, which is due to be held in Antalya, Turkey, from November 24 to December 6.
At the tournament in which Armenia will be defending its title won in China in 2011 the team will preserve its composition: Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian (coach – Arshak Petrosian).
Armenia’s competitors in the round-robin tournament are Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Germany, the USA, China, Egypt, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Armenia placed only fourth among 38 participants, behind the teams of Azerbaijan, France and Russia, at the European Chess Team Championship that ended last Sunday.
