Bob Saroya Member of the Canadian House of Commons

Dear Mr. Saroya,

Hope this e-mail finds you well and in good spirits.

On behalf of the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC), I am writing to you today to offer our help and support regarding the ongoing situation surrounding the COVID-19 Outbreak.

We recognize that the outbreak of COVID-19 is placing enormous pressure on our government and elected officials, as you try to reach out to all Canadians to ensure that they are healthy and informed of all the decisions that are being made to help them. We want you to know that we are here to help in any capacity that we might be able to.

The ANCC,  in cooperation with its affiliated community centres and organizations has already started a community-wide campaign to reach out to community members and keep them updated on the latest developments.

We also want to reiterate the importance of helping cultural organizations such us our community centres that play a central role in providing a large of number of important services to Canadians, especially to those who are often the most vulnerable. The more financially sustainable and strong cultural organizations are, the stronger and safer is our society. We are hopeful that our government’s Economic Response Plan will also allocate funds to help these organizations that do so much for the betterment of Canadian society. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to discuss further, please contact me at anytime.

Thank you very much for your service and dedication. Stay healthy and strong.

Sincerely yours,

Sevag Belian – Executive Director

Armenian National Committee of Canada

Aris Babikian & Vincent Ke, Members of Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Dear MPP Vincent Ke and MPP Aris Babikian,

I hope you and your families are doing well and staying healthy.

On behalf of the Armenian Community Centre of Toronto, I am writing to express how proud we are of the leadership and courage demonstrated by Premier Doug Ford and the provincial government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with the guidance from the government and health officials, we have shut down all operations including our church, community centre, and school.

We have been following the latest developments and announcements diligently and making information available to our community members in Armenian and English. We are monitoring our community’s needs and have set up support services and helplines to aid our community’s most vulnerable. Please find our community communications attached for your reference.

We understand that all levels of government are still determining how best to support Canadians and Canadian for-profit businesses. However, we ask that in this time of uncertainty, the federal, provincial and municipal governments also consider the needs of community-based organizations and not-for-profits that are sharing the burden of COVID-19. We have lost all sources of income and will face significant financial hardship in the coming months.

In the meanwhile, like all Canadians, we will continue to find innovative ways to help our families, our neighbours, and community members. Together, we will come out of this stronger than ever.

Stay safe and vigilant.

Best,

Sevag Kupelian
